The City of Sequim's Public Works Department seeks a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Intern to join its engineering team. As the city expands its technological capabilities, the demand for GIS software expertise has grown. The GIS Intern will collaborate with mentors to design a learning/work plan that explores various aspects of ESRI ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS PRO, AutoCAD, database management, cartography, and governmental administration.
The GIS Intern will engage in a range of tasks supporting Public Works, including GIS analysis, data management, administrative duties, and fieldwork. This full-time paid internship can last between 4 weeks and 3 months, accommodating the intern's availability and the City's needs. Typical work hours are Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM. We strongly encourage interested applicants to apply, even if they are not available for the preferred days and times. Part-time options or alternate schedules may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
The GIS Intern position is suitable for undergraduates, graduate students, and recent graduates. Preferred areas of study include Civil or Environmental Engineering, Environmental Studies, Natural Resource Management, Geographic Information Systems, Environmental Justice, or Political Science. Familiarity with ESRI GIS software is required, and AutoCAD experience is preferred.
At the internship's conclusion, the GIS Intern will present their learning experience to the City Engineer and Public Works Director.
Please note that the City of Sequim is currently accepting applications for both an Engineering Intern and a GIS Intern. However, only one intern will be hired. The final decision will be based on the number of applicants and the relevant skills and interests of the candidates.
